Vijayawada: Senior Congress leader and APCC in-charge Admin Kolanukonda Sivaji said Mahakavi Gurajada Apparao’s writings had played a significant role in exposing the social, economic and women’s issues of his time and creating awareness among people.
The 164th birth anniversary of Gurajada Apparao was celebrated at the State Congress office here on Monday evening. Addressing the gathering, Sivaji said Gurajada, through his powerful writings, had challenged several social practices and conditions prevailing more than 150 years ago and brought about a new consciousness in society.
He recalled Gurajada’s celebrated message, “Desamante Matti Kaadoi, Desamante Manushuloi” and said it continued to remain relevant even decades after the poet’s death.
Sivaji said there was a need to include Gurajada’s writings promoting social awareness and patriotism in school curricula, including NCERT and CBSE syllabi, in the present context.
Earlier, cultural artiste Ranga Rajesh and his team presented songs on Gurajada, while Prabha Phaninder also rendered songs highlighting the poet’s life and works.
