Prakasam barrage releases 14,500 cusecs of surplus water
Vijayawada: The Prakasam barrage in Vijayawada reached its full reservoir level (FRL) on Thursday evening as inflows into the Krishna river increased following continuous rains in the catchment area. Authorities opened 20 barrage gates by one foot and began releasing 14,500 cusecs of surplus water downstream into the rishna river at around 9 pm.
According to the latest barrage figures recorded at 9 pm., the realised inflow stood at 26,024 cusecs. Of this, 11,524 cusecs was being diverted through various canals, while the remaining 14,500 cusecs was released as surplus water downstream.
The barrage level was recorded at 12.0 feet. Officials released 5,738 cusecs into the KE Main Canal, 5,527 cusecs into the KW Main Canal and around 259 cusecs into the Guntur Channel. Together, these three canal releases accounted for 11,524 cusecs.
