SMC conducts cleanliness, waste segregation drive

Vijayawada: Educational institutions in Vijayawada observed Swarna Andhra-Swachh Andhra (SASA) programme on Saturday, organising cleanliness drives, waste segregation activities, plantation programmes and awareness campaigns to promote a clean and healthy environment. At Government Siddhartha Medical College (SMC), the programme was conducted at CRIKS Hall at Ramavarappadu Ring Centre, Gunadala, with in-charge Principal Dr K Prashanthi and Associate Professor Dr KP Prasad Babu leading the programme.
Dr Prashanthi said maintaining cleanliness in and around educational institutions was essential for safeguarding public health. She called upon students and staff to become ambassadors of SASA programme and spread awareness about sanitation and responsible waste management.
Participants cleaned college and hostel premises and took part in a rally. They were sensitised to segregating wet and dry waste and disposing of biodegradable waste through composting. Faculty members, MBBS and postgraduate students, diploma students and office staff participated in the drive.
Similar activities were organised at SRR & CVR Government Degree College at Machavaram, where Principal Dr K Bhagya Lakshmi led a plantation programme and administered Swachh Andhra-Swarna Andhra pledge to students. She urged them to make cleanliness a part of their daily lives and contribute to creating healthy and sustainable surroundings for future generations.
NTR district NSS Programme Officer and Tourism Officer Dr Kolleti Ramesh, SASA Coordinator Dr Sudhakar, IQAC Coordinator Dr Nageswara Rao, Physical Director Dr D Yugandhar and other faculty members, NSS volunteers and students participated in the programme.
