Vijayawada: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) Commissioner HM Dhyanachandra has directed officials to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply and provide essential civic facilities to devotees visiting Indrakeeladri for the Dasara Sarannavaratri festivities.
With the nine-day celebrations commencing on Sunday, the Commissioner said special measures were being taken on a war footing to ensure that devotees arriving from different parts of the State did not face any inconvenience.
Responding to a request from the Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam authorities, the VMC has established special drinking water stock points at key locations. Officials have been instructed to provide water to devotees waiting in queue lines without making them ask for it.
Dhyanachandra said the stock points were being monitored regularly to maintain adequate reserves. Officials were directed to replenish supplies before stocks ran out to prevent interruptions, particularly during peak hours.
The Commissioner also instructed officials to maintain strict sanitation throughout the festival. Waste along approach roads, queue lines and around drinking water points was being cleared regularly to ensure a clean and hygienic environment.
Temporary toilets set up by the VMC were also being cleaned and maintained continuously to prevent inconvenience to devotees. The Commissioner directed officials to monitor their upkeep throughout the festivities.
He further instructed staff to supervise the free baggage and footwear storage facilities arranged for devotees and ensure their smooth functioning. Dhyanachandra stressed that all civic facilities should be monitored continuously and any shortcomings addressed promptly.
VMC Chief Engineer P Satyakumari, Superintending Engineer (Works) Chandrasekhar and other staff members participated in the inspection.
