Vijayawada: Yoga should become an integral part of every student’s daily routine to promote physical health, concentration and emotional balance, said B Srinivasa Rao, state project director, Samagra Shiksha, Andhra Pradesh.
He was speaking at the inauguration of a three-day residential Yoga Training Programme for teachers of PM SHRI schools in Andhra Pradesh, jointly organised by Samagra Shiksha AP and the Heartfulness Education Trust, Hyderabad, at Kanha Shanti Vanam in Hyderabad on Monday. The programme will continue till October 7.
A total of 1,870 teachers from 935 PM SHRI schools, with two teachers from each school, are participating in the training programme. Global Heartfulness Guide Daaji and Director of Yoga Academy Dr Véronique Nicolai were among those present. Srinivasa Rao said schools in Andhra Pradesh should emerge as role models for comprehensive education and provide a safe and joyful learning environment in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
He said the trained teachers should, under the guidance of their respective headmasters and with support from Heartfulness Yoga Academy experts, introduce yoga as part of the daily routine of students. Yoga would help children improve their physical fitness, concentration and mental resilience and enable them to grow into responsible and capable citizens, he added.
As per the guidelines of the Ministry of Ayush, teachers are being given hands-on training in yoga warm-ups, Surya Namaskar, asanas, pranayama, meditation and relaxation techniques. After completing the programme, they will receive certificates as ‘Lead Teachers for Yoga’ in their respective schools.
The teachers are also being oriented on reporting the progress of yoga sessions and activities such as International Yoga Day through a dedicated digital platform.
Heartfulness Education Trust Project Director Ravi Shankar Balla said it was a matter of pride to host teachers from Andhra Pradesh at Kanha Shanti Vanam. He expressed confidence that the teachers would take the spirit of yoga back to their schools and contribute to the well-being and brighter future of lakhs of students.
