Visakhapatnam: Artificial Intelligence is transforming the nature of professions, and robots are reshaping industries, even as India emerges as one of the world’s most significant economic and technological powerhouses, emphasised Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications.
Addressing the graduating students as chief guest and conferring degrees upon 3,052 graduating students across diverse disciplines including engineering, management, sciences, humanities, architecture, and pharmacy at GITAM Deemed to be University, which celebrated its 17th Convocation on Sunday, he pointed out that some skills relevant today may become obsolete tomorrow, a pattern that continues to repeat, and called upon students to keep themselves equipped with relevant skills.

GITAM Chancellor Virander Singh Chauhan delivered the convocation address. Member of Parliament and institution’s President M Sribharat presided over the ceremonial proceedings.
The Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) was conferred upon Ramaswami Balasubramaniam, Member of NITI Aayog, recognising his visionary leadership and grassroots contributions. Emphasising the rapid evolution of technology, M Sribharat highlighted how Artificial Intelligence is transforming global systems and encouraged the graduates to remain adaptable, curious, and leaders in shaping the future. The convocation concluded with felicitations in the presence of the institution’s Vice-Chancellor Errol D’Souza, Pro Vice-Chancellors Y Gouthama Rao and B Geetanjali, Registrar D Gunasekharan, faculty, and the graduates’ families.
