Visakhapatnam: Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) laid the keel of the second 60-tonne Bollard Pull tug, VC 11206, for Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) on Friday.
The keel was laid in the presence of VPA chairperson JS Bindra, along with other officials from the port, HSL, IRS and Solas Marine. Contracted in December 2025 and built to IRS class, its twin tug has crossed 60 percent completion, both are set to float out together this October. This is HSL’s 13th vessel for VPA since launch Shanti in 1970.
Participating as chief guest, JS Bindra said the two tugs are strategic assets that will strengthen safe berthing and cut turnaround time at the port. It indicates HSL’s renewed momentum under Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat, the chairperson underlined, calling VPA and HSL two heritage organisations of Vizag, both serving the nation for over 90 years. He commended HSL for meeting its timelines, from steel cutting in February to keel laying.
Rear Admiral Chandrasekharan Raghuram, CMD of HSL said HSL remains committed to delivering on its word. He outlined a far larger partnership taking shape with VPA, including a proposed 60-tonne electric tug and green fleet conversion, a long-term ship repair tie-up using HSL’s dry dock and a future shipbuilding complex at Dugarajapatnam.
