Wanaparthy: Minister for Excise Jupally Krishna Rao on Tuesday alleged that the BRS is exploiting the drought for political gain and spreading false propaganda. He questioned why, if they truly cared for farmers, they failed to complete irrigation projects during the 10 years rule of K Chandrashekha Rao. Since the Congress came to power, 130,000 acres in the constituency are receiving water, he said.

He demanded BRs leader Harish Rao provide an account of how many irrigation projects were actually constructed during the ten-year BRS regime.

He questioned which projects were built by the BRS government, excluding those initiated during the tenure of the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy. Jupally challenged the BRS partymen, asking why irrigation projects remained incomplete after ten years of rule.

Speaking at a press conference at the DCC office, Rao and local MLA Tudi Megha Reddy criticised the BRS leaders—who were rejected by people in the last elections—for visiting villages in a desperate attempt to maintain their political relevance.

Jupally asked, “You promised to provide irrigation water to four lakh acres through the Mahatma Gandhi Lift Irrigation Project; why, then, did you fail to complete it?”

Stating that the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme requires an investment of Rs 60,000 crore, he remarked that the BRS leaders’ claims of having spent Rs 25,000 crore are merely an attempt to mislead public. The leaders, who failed to complete the projects are now questioning the government.

He criticised former Minister S Niranjan Reddy, pointing out that despite having numerous opportunities, he failed to bring about the expected level of development to the constituency.

It is inappropriate to engage in politics in the name of farmers without having actually done anything to benefit them.

Municipal chairperson Madhavi, vice-chairman Madhusudan Goud, ex-market committee chairman Srinivas Goud, former councillor B. Krishna, Tailam Shankar Prasad, Wanaparthy town president Kadire Ramulu, former MPP Shankar Naik, councillor Kranthi Goud, Chukka Raju were present.
