25 Years Of 9/11: Movies And Documentaries That Revisit The September 11 Attacks

September 11 is one of the worst days in the history of the world. The incident of 9/11 had a lasting impact on the collective memory, political discourse, and popular culture 25 years after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Over the years the tragedy has been retold in feature films, political dramas or documentaries, all of which include archival footage, eyewitness accounts and interviews with survivors. These productions offer other perspectives of the attacks and aftermath from the passengers on the United Airlines plane that was never to the White House, to the people inside the White House.

It's time to watch 10 movies and documentaries again on the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Turning Point: Generation 9/11 (2026)

Turning Point: Generation 9/11 is a new documentary about the effect of the 9/11 attacks on a generation. The documentary provides personal accounts of the attacks and their consequences and delves into the tragedy from the perspective of those who witnessed it, and those who were living in its shadow.

9/11: One Day In America (2021)

This documentary series brings back the events of September 11 via a combination of archival recordings, witness accounts and testimony from those that survived.

Includes chronological overview of the attacks, new videos and eyewitness accounts from those present, and a thorough examination of the events of one of the most pivotal days in American history. It's on Prime Video and Hulu.

The Looming Tower (2018)

The Looming Tower is based on the book of the same name, which discusses the growing threat of Al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden before the attacks of September 11th.

The series also explores the tension between the CIA and the FBI, and how it might effect how they will engage with the new threat.

United 93 (2006)

The hijacking of one of the four planes that participated in the September 11 attacks by United 93 is depicted in the movie.

The movie will be about the people on the aircraft who attempted to take control of the aircraft after learning about the other attacks. Finally, flight 93 made a crash near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, short of its target.

Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004)

Fahrenheit 9/11 is the documentary of Michael Moore, which looks at the political ramifications of the attacks.

The film focuses on the Bush administration's response to 9/11 and its war efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as Moore's opinions on the downplaying of 9/11 to support the U.S. foreign policy.

9/11 (2002)

9/11 is the name of the documentary, which tells the story from the perspective of French filmmakers Jules and Gedeon Naudet, and James Hanlon.

The filmmakers were shooting footage of a New York firehouse when the attack took place, and the footage has the first-person view of the firefighters and the aftermath of the tragedy.

9-11: The Day The World Stood Still (2025)

The Day The World Stood Still is a telling of September 11th, with a particular emphasis on the lives of those who survived and the indomitable spirit of resilience and support that emerged in the wake of the terror attacks.

The movie not only chronicles the actual destruction, but the human response following it as well. It can be streamed on Prime Video.

9/11: Inside The President's War Room (2021)

This documentary, told from the inside out of the White House, deals with the 12 hours after the attacks.

It looks at Bush's response and the decisions facing his administration as they tried to gauge the unfolding crisis. The documentary also features accounts from people involved in the government's immediate response.

The Report (2019)

The Report follows the investigation of the CIA's detention and interrogation programme that was established after 9/11, starring Adam Driver as Senate investigator Daniel J. Jones.

The political thriller centres on the extensive research Jones has undertaken and investigates allegations at the agency of torture and abuse of detainees and evidence being destroyed.

My Name Is Khan (2010)

My Name Is Khan' is Shah Rukh Khan's personal story of how 9/11 affected him and his community.

The movie is about a Muslim man who is autistic who's trying to find his way across the USA to reunite with his separated wife. It is set in the context of America following the tragedy of 9/11 and illustrates discrimination and suspicion towards Muslims, along with problems of identity, prejudice and humanity.

25 Years On, the 9/11 Stories Resonate;

Numerous films and documentaries that were made about Sept. 11 demonstrate the circumstances that took place on the tragedy. Some of the film makers try to depict the difficulties faced by the survivors or by the first responders, or even to the shortcomings of political decisions, intelligence and social implications of the attacks.

The stories together retain different aspects of an event that are still influencing lives 25 years later.
