Bhavnagar Murder Case: Police Cane Accused During Crime Scene Reconstruction At Bus Stand

Police in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar took a 20-year-old man accused of killing his live-in partner to the bus stand where the alleged assault took place, as part of a crime-scene reconstruction exercise.

Faisal alias Khatki Lakhani, the accused, was rushed to the scene by the Neelambag police station team to provide clues to investigators in the sequence of events that led to the fatal attack.

But a video from the exercise has emerged apparently of police officers striking the accused with sticks while he was being held in public.

However, a video recorded during the exercise has surfaced, purportedly showing police personnel hitting the accused with sticks while he was being restrained in public.

The case concerns the death of 40-year-old Kajalben Baraiya, who had reportedly been living with Faisal for several years.

According to police, the two were involved in an altercation at the bus stand on September 3. Kajalben suffered severe injuries during the confrontation and died while receiving treatment at a hospital on September 4.

According to police, the tussle started when Faisal suspected that Kajalben had a romantic relation with her friend Ravi Gohil. Ravi, however, reportedly told investigators that the argument was linked to alcohol consumption.

The dispute reportedly turned violent and resulted in an assault. Police said Faisal pushed Kajalben down to the ground and then kicked and punched her causing serious injuries to her head and other parts of her body.

Ravi allegedly tried to intervene but was also assaulted and sustained injuries.

CCTV cameras installed at the bus stand reportedly recorded the incident. The footage is said to show the confrontation continuing for several minutes as people nearby watched.

Investigators are examining the CCTV footage to establish the sequence of events and determine the circumstances that led to Kajalben’s death.

The subsequent crime-scene reconstruction has also drawn attention after a video emerged from the bus stand.

The footage appears to show several police personnel and other people surrounding Faisal near parked buses. At one point, police personnel can be seen allegedly using sticks on him while he is being restrained and moved around the location.

Neelambag Police Inspector DP Unadkad is alleged to have been involved in the beating.

The circumstances surrounding the police action are likely to come under scrutiny as the murder investigation continues.

Police registered a murder case against Faisal following a complaint filed by Kajalben’s mother.

Investigators have also taken note of Faisal’s previous criminal record, which reportedly includes cases related to robbery and physical assault.

The probe will now focus on evidence including CCTV recordings, witness statements, medical documents and post-mortem findings to establish the circumstances of the woman’s death and the role of the accused.
