Congress protests on NH161 in Jukkal against EC
Congress workers protested and carried out a blockade of National Highway 161 due to irregularities found in the process of deleting voters by the Election Commission of India.
The protest was organized by Jukkal MLA Thota Lakshmikantha Rao, after his call for the Congress workers to assemble at Jukkal X-Road. He criticized the stand of the Central Government and asked for the resignation of the Election Commission and its Chief Election Commissioner, whom he blamed for the irregularities.
Rao further said that the Congress party will always protect the right to vote of people. The party leaders claimed that voting is an integral part of democracy and that they will fight against anything that threatens it.
The protest was attended by Congress leaders, elected representatives and workers like DCC president Yele Mallikarjun. These included sarpanches, former ZPTC and MPTC members, municipal councilors, society chairpersons, mandal level party presidents, youth congress, minority wing members and other affiliated organizations.
The protest resulted in heavy traffic jam on NH161 and created problems for motorists.
