Man held for exceeding volume of loudspeakers during azaan
Bijnor: A man was arrested here for allegedly using a loudspeaker at a volume exceeding the prescribed limit while giving the azaan at a mosque in Najibabad, police said on Sunday.
Superintendent of Police K K Vishnoi said Mohammad Faizan was arrested on Saturday and he was sent to 14-day judicial custody over the incident.
He was allegedly exceeding the volume limit of giving the azaan at a mosque near the Government Inter College in Najibabad, SP Vishnoi said.
Police personnel visited the mosque to check the sound level after receiving information about the matter, he said.
Sub-Inspector Saurabh Singh subsequently lodged a report at the Najibabad police station, following which Faizan was arrested.
Police produced him before the sub-divisional magistrate’s court, which sent him to 14 days of judicial custody, officials said.
Earlier this month, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court took suo motu cognisance of the reported death of a class 2 student in Balrampur, who collapsed in her classroom on September 22 while a procession carrying a loud DJ system was passing near her school.
The court clarified that it had not reached any conclusion on the cause of the child’s death but said the incident raised wider concerns over noise pollution and compliance with statutory norms. It directed authorities to submit reports on the incident and initiated separate proceedings to examine measures to curb noise pollution.
