Medininagar (Jharkhand): A 32-year-old man was shot dead by motorcycle-borne assailants in Jharkhand's Palamu district, police said on Thursday.
The incident occurred in the Palamu town area under the Hussainabad Police Station limits around 9 pm on Wednesday, when the man stopped his car on the roadside and started speaking to someone over the phone, a senior officer said.
The deceased was identified as Om Prakash Singh, a resident of Shivshakti Nagar.
Hussainabad Police Station in-charge Chandan Kumar said an investigation has been initiated into the matter.
"Efforts are underway to identify the attackers and ascertain the reasons behind the incident," he said.
According to locals, the assailants fired two rounds of bullets at the person when he was trying to open the vehicle's door to escape.
The locals took him to a hospital where a doctor declared him dead, the police officer added.
