Organ donor gets State funeral
Dhenkanal: In a moving tribute to selflessness, 44-year-old Durgavati Rout was accorded full State honours. A resident of Digambarpur village under Gondia block, Durgavati, wife of Pramod Kumar Rout, had previously pledged her organs. Following her brain stem death during treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, medical teams successfully harvested and preserved her kidney and liver. Her noble final act will now save patients suffering from end-stage organ failure.
The last rites were performed at her native village cremation ground, where district officials and public representatives gathered to pay their respects. Wreaths were laid by key dignitaries, including Additional District Magistrate Ramesh Chandra Sethi, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Archana Puhan, and Additional Superintendents of Police Suryamani Pradhan and Niranjan Padhi.
Also in attendance to pay their final tributes were Gondia Block Chairperson Reena Rani Khatua, Block Development Officer Pabitramohan Behera, and Nihal Prasad police station IIC Dhirendra Kumar Swain. Officials praised Durgavati’s noble gesture, emphasising that her profound donation will give recipients a vital second chance at life through organ transplantation.
