MLA Bandaru Madhava Naidu and Narsapur Sub-Collector Sumit Kumar Gandhi garlanded the Bapu statue situated at Lalitamba Ghat on the banks of River Vasistha in Narasapur town, following which the birth anniversary celebrations of Bapu began.

Speaking on the occasion, Naidu said that as an artist, director and writer Bapu brought glory to Telugu folk. “We are fortunate that a person like Bapu was born in Narsapur,” he said.

The MLA recollected the drawings and cartoons, which reflect Telugu culture and stated that with his works, Bapu brought Telugus recognition on an international level. He informed the state government has treated the event as an official event and has been conducting them since the past three years at the Lalitamba Ghat.

He said that the Utsav Committee would organise cultural programmes for three days from Wednesday in the town. On December 15, a Boat rally competition would be conducted in the River Vasistha Godavari.

This competition would start from the Madhavayapalem ferry point to Kondalamma Gudi Ghat and again reach Madhavayapalem ferry point. Dadasaheb Phalke award winner K Viswanath and Labour Minister Pitani Satyanarayana would participate as chief guests at the competitions. Cultural programmes would also be held on December 15, he added.

Sub-Collector Sumit Kumar Gandhi said that he would extend full assistance to the programmes on behalf of the Government.

Municipal Chairperson Pasupuletei Ratnamala, Vice-Chairman Ponnala Nagababu, Project committee Chairman Potturi Ramaraju, AMC Chairman Rayudu Sriramulu, State Women Commission Member Sirigidneedi Rajyalakshmi and others participated in the programme. On this occasion, poster painting and drawing competitions were organised for the students.
