Unable to bear neglect in the Government Hospital here, a 60-year-old patient with an infected leg allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the window beside his bed in the hospital on Monday.
The deceased Sunkanna (60), a daily wage labourer and resident of Maya Bazaar in Neerugattuvaripalle Colony on the outskirts of the town, was admitted to the hospital on October 12 with an infected leg, following fracture he suffered in a road accident. The deceased, was living alone.
While in hospital, apparently he had pain in his leg around midnight. With none to provide relief through treatment, Sunkanna allegedly chose to hang from the window sill, using a long cloth. Although staff nurses and a duty doctor were present in the hospital, none of them noticed the incident.
On information, CI Chengaiah reached the hospital and sent the body for an autopsy. He has registered a case. Leader of CPI(M) Krishnappa has demanded a thorough police investigation. He wanted action to be taken against the medical staff on duty.
