At least 21 people, including seven women and six children, were killed when a goods truck carrying them toppled at Savadatti, 40 km from Belgaum district in northern Karnataka.

It is learnt that the truck was carrying almost 50 people, mostly tribal laborers from Yadgir in Karnataka on their way to work on sugarcane plantations in which is located at the Maharashtra border.
This incident took place on Saturday early hours around 5:40 a.m. when the driver lost his control over the vehicle and hit a roadside kerb at Halki while going to Savadatti in Maharashtra.
“Overloading may have caused the accident, which happened at around 5.40 am on Saturday morning.” Police official S.D. Gudnavar said .
Halki is about 30 km from here, while Savadatti is situated in Karnataka- Maharashtra border.
The injured were admitted to a hospital at Bailahongal in Belgaum district, PTI, the local police, said.- With inputs of ians and pti.
