The women employees of the APSRTC met Corporation Managing Director A K Khan on Monday, and represented their problems and sought his good offices.
Earlier, the delegation headed by T L Kantha, Convenor of APSRTC Women Employees Coordination Committee, held a round-table with delegates from various depots at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram to voice their concerns about inadequate facilities and biased treatment meted to them.
An employee from Nellore bus depot said that after several requests, they were allotted a rest room in the depot. However, half of the room space was being used to store chart assignments. Moreover, male staff frequent the rest room to use it. She said: “The rest rooms are provided for women staff, but we are unable to use it.”
The women employees also complained about the odd working hours. If they reach home late at night, they are subjected to suspicion by their husbands, and at times, they even suffer physical abuse by them. The women employees resolved to launch an agitation if their legitimate demands - setting up of toilets at all terminal points and letting them use their holidays within the assigned time etc – were not met immediately.
