Hyderabad: The entire administration in 13 districts of Seemandhra region came to a standstill on Thursday with nearly four lakh employees joining the indefinite strike call given by Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers' (APNGOs) Association against the division of State.
The official machinery in Seemandhra came to a halt as the government offices remained closed. The employees of revenue, excise, commercial taxes, education, public sector and medical and health departments took part in the strike.
The employees staged dharnas in front of district collectorates and raised slogans demanding that the Centre not table the AP Reorganisation Bill in the parliament as it was rejected by AP State legislature. The APNGOs claimed that over four lakh employees participated in the strike in all 13 districts. Agitating employees took to streets in some parts of the Seemandhra. Meanwhile, some staged a sit-in in temple town of Tirupati and formed a human chain.
Addressing the media, APNGOs president P Ashok Babu said that they would convene public meetings at Amalapuram, Chittoor and Guntur on February 10, 11 and 12 respectively.
He said the employees would stage sit-in at the residences of Central Ministers and MPs and at the government offices on February 7 and 8.
The employees' body also called for three-day shutdown in Seemandhra from February 10 to 12. It has also called for 'Chalo Delhi' from February 17 to 19 to mount pressure on the Centre to not to introduce the Bill in the Parliament.
