Hyderabad: The Union Minister for Rural Development, Jairam Ramesh, has predicted that if TRS emerges as a strong force, it will be disastrous for the T State. It may go the way of Aam Aadmi Party and its chief K Chandrasekhar Rao will prove to be another Kejriwal. Ramesh, according to sources, made these comments when TJAC leaders led by Prof M Kodandaram called on him on Thursday to thank him for the role he played in making the T State a reality. Sources said Jairam told the TJAC leaders that “the TRS is a regional party and its agenda is different. While Congress being a national party would take a national perspective on various issues, a regional party would take a narrow view on certain issues which could prove to be damaging to the region in the days to come.”
Jairam Ramesh is said to have asked the TJAC leaders pointedly: “What kind of social justice are you expecting from an autocratic party like TRS.” He was also not sure whether Telangana Rashtra Samiti would come to power in Telangana.
Even if it comes to power, there is no assurance that the demands raised by Telangana organisations would be fulfilled in the separate State, he is said to have commented. Ramesh made another interesting comment that in-principle, he was against the bifurcation of the State as he was of the firm opinion that social justice was possible only in united Andhra Pradesh. But being a loyal Congress worker, he said he had to toe the party line. Since the bifurcation was over, he urged the TJAC leaders to see that the Telugu people live as “one people in two states.” The JAC leaders explained to the minister that Telangana people fought for separate state to protect their rights in jobs, education and economic development. The people of Telangana, they said, were discriminated in all spheres under united Andhra.
TGOs President V Srinivas Goud, Telangana Employees Union President Vittal and Telangana Electricity Employee JAC Convener N Raghu were among the JAC leaders who met the minister.
