Hyderabad: Reacting sharply to the criticism by Telangana Congress leaders against him and his family members, and accusing him of trying to make Telangana his ‘Jagir,’ Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday said that the word ‘family politics’ connoted a wrong philosophy.

Addressing media persons at Telangana Bhavan here, Rao asked the Congressmen as to why they did not show similar zeal when his whole family including himself, nephew, son and daughter took part in the agitation and were all sent to different jails during the movement. “The word family politics is outdated. Look at the families of M K Karunanidhi, Farooq Abdullah and Mulayam Singh. Even Indira Gandhi is no exception to this. How are we different?” he asked.

Rao pointed out that only talent, understanding and ability to serve the people would make for a good leader, and not any family connection to him.

He reiterated that his family members would play a key role in politics as they had done during the agitation, notwithstanding the irrational talk of his detractors. The TRS chief dared the Telangana Congressmen to confront them on issues relating to the people rather than raising illogical issues.

He further stated that he had written a letter to the Governor about how former Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy hastily gave clearances to the ‘illegal’Dummugudem-Nagarjuna Sagar tail pond project which would deprive Telangana of irrigation. He sought immediate cancellation of the decision taken by Kiran Reddy besides action against him.

He alleged that the controversial project plans were finalised during Ponnala Lakshmaia’'s tenure as the irrigation minister. Rao said that if he had been in Lakshmiah’s position, he would have resigned and voiced a strong protest.

Rao said a party delegation would meet the Governor in the next couple of days to request him about the need to include lessons about Telangana history in the school curriculum of the new State. To a query, he said he would contest from Gajwel Assembly constituency in the upcoming election, adding that decision on the MP seat was not taken yet.

Election campaign from April 11

Meanwhile, TRS chief informed that he would kick-start election campaign after April 11. He informed that party was mulling over postponing party formation day celebrations on April 27 this year owing to elections.
