Hyderabad: Tollywood actors seem to be making a beeline to extend support to BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

Two days after Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan met Modi, another Tollywood hero Akkineni Nagarjuna called on Modi in Gandhinagar on Monday. This led to speculations that Nagarjuna met Modi to seek Lok Sabha seat for his wife Amala.

Emerging from the one-hour-long meeting, Nagarjuna told the media that he was “inspired by Modiji and he will be the next PM.” He said he wanted to meet the leader who would lead the country in 2014. “There is no politics involved in it,” he said. He said that he had heard a lot about Modi and the manner in which he had developed Gujarat. He wanted to see for himself and have first-hand knowledge about it.

Nagarjuna visited Punsari village and was awestruck with CCTV cameras, 24-hour Wi-Fi Internet and solar-powered lamps? “Well, Punsari village in Gujarat is providing its citizens much more than what even some urbanites can hope for,” he said. The village also has a reverse osmosis plant which provides clean drinking water at a nominal cost of Rs 4 for a 20-litre drinking water can. An independent bus service, a Wi-Fi tower providing 24-hour free Internet connectivity, water-proof public speakers and solar-powered lamps have enhanced Punsari's brand equity.

And with each villager being insured for an accidental cover of Rs 1 lakh and a mediclaim cover of Rs 25,000, the people here have little to complain.

“This village has 24- hour power supply and broadband connection. Even in Jubilee Hills area of Hyderabad, which is supposed to be the most posh locality, there is a power cut of about three hours every day,” he noted.

The Sabarmati Riverfront Development Project consists of a stretch of 10.4 km along the river in the city and has been developed by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. It is funded by central government with a seed capital of Rs 10 million.

“I want the rest of India, more so my home state, to develop like Gujarat, and hence I called on him and extended my support to him,” he said. The meetings signal the BJP's intent to win as many friends and allies as possible ahead of the national election which is just about two weeks away. When pointed out that Jana Sena leader Pawan Kalyan had called on Modi and supported him, Nagarjuna said he had nothing to comment on it. He also did not say if he was contemplating to join BJP. He only said he had a long discussion with BJP senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu who advised him to meet Modi and that was why he was there.
