Vijayawada/Rajahmundry: The Sivaramakrishnan Expert Committee on the new capital is studying the best available resources for location of capital in Seemandhra. However, it will not recommend any place.
The committee members arrived here on Sunday evening, after visiting Visakhapatnam and Rajahmundry during the last two days. Chairman K C Sivaramakrishnan, a retired IAS officer, was absent on health grounds. Senior member Rathin Roy said he would be present during the next visit to this city. The committee first held discussions with senior officials, led by Collector M Raghunandana Rao at the camp office. It is understood to have collected information on the city and its suburbs, including infrastructure, geographical location, transport facilities and land availability.
Interacting with the media, before receiving public representations, Roy said the members were happy to see the place, which has great potential for development. They were studying facilities available in different places and would present a report to the government.
The members interacted with the representatives of trade, business, political and other sections. They also held an interactive session with the staff of the School of Architecture and Planning, Confederation of Indian Industry and Andhra Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It will visit Guntur on Monday.
Later they assessed resources in East Godavari district at a meeting with Collector Neetu Prasad and other senior officers. She explained the availability of natural resources and rail, air and national highway connectivity. The newly modernized Madurapudi airport would also help. The team members inquired about availability of land, water and other sources.
Dr Roy said members would visit the State again after studying reports from various districts. Prof George Victor, Vice Chancellor, Adi Kavi Nannya University, G Buctchaiah Chowdary, ex-minister Surya Prakash Rao, former MLA, M Murali Mohan, cine artiste, Muppala Subba Rao, Bar Council member, submitted representations to the members.
