Guntur: In a shocking incident, a girl student on Saturday threw acid on a lecturer at Government Polytechnic College at Nallapadu village in Guntur district, alleging that he ditched her and married another woman.

M Venkat Ramana suffered serious burns on his eyes, face and neck. He was admitted to the Government General Hospital here. The girl student was identified as Soujanya from Kakani from Narasaraopet mandal. She alleged that the lecturer had cheated her by making a false promise of marriage.
Police said the woman went to the college, by covering her face with a veil. She lay in wait at the main entrance and splashed concentrated sulphuric acid on Ramana as he came out during the lunch time. The woman said Ramana had befriended her while he was working as a tutor in PNR Degree college at Narsaraopet.
She was a student pursuing degree in the same college at the same time. They became friends and their friendship turned into a love affair, she claimed. Later, she left for Visakhapatnam to pursue her post graduation. Meanwhile, the lecturer married another woman in Guntur on August 15 this year. A criminal case was registered against her.
