A truck carrying 400 LPG cylinders (Refills) caught fire and the cylinders exploded on Highway number 44 near Enugamarri village in Kurnool district during the wee hours of Thursday.
The cylinders exploded one after another with deafening sound and fireworks shocking the residents of Enugumarri where the mishap occurred while the traffic was stranded to a length of several kilometers on both sides after the explosions.
However, there were no causalities reported. The fire tenders could not venture close to the burning truck due to heat and heavy flames from the explosion of refills.
According to Kurnool police the truck was on its way from Vadiampet in Anantapur District from the HP filling station to a delivery point at Nandikotkur. The driver and the cleaner of the truck noticed fire when they reached Enugamarri and immediately abandoned the truck following the explosion of cylinders.
Hundreds of burning cylinders strewn around the accident spot forced the police to close the busy road resulting in heavy traffic jam for several kilometers on both sides. Traffic was regulated only after the fire department declared the road as safe to travel.
