Tirumala: The forest department of the Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams cut down a 'hazardous tree' which posed a threat to the visiting devotees at Tirumala on Thursday. It was on May 2 that The Hans India had published a report over the apathy of the TTD forest department in clearing the 'hazardous trees' posing threat to the lives of the devotees as well as the local denizens.
It may be recalled that the report was in connection to the failure of the forest department in identifying 'hazardous and uprooted' trees posing a threat to the devotees, subsequent to the thunderstorm which shook the Tirumala hills towards the end of April.
During the recent thunderstorm, a huge tree got uprooted and was precariously hanging over the ceiling of a cottage building managed by the Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams between cottage numbers 360 & 361 in the Seshadri Nagar cottages (SNC) area. The huge tree which got uprooted fell sideward on one of the cottages while a portion of the big trunk of the uprooted tree also was found precariously hanging between two tiny branches of another tree.
Meanwhile, subsequent to the report appearing in The Hans India, TTD divisional forest officer (DFO) NV Shivaram Prasad directed the forest department staff to inspect the place and cut down the tree immediately. The forest department staff who inspected the spot near SNC on Tuesday, engaged workers and cut down the 'uprooted hazardous' tree much to the relief of the locals as well as the devotees.
