Two students drown in Godavari
Two students were drowned in River Godavari at Kovvuru town in West Godavari district on Sunday evening.
Eluru: Two students were drowned in River Godavari at Kovvuru town in West Godavari district on Sunday evening.
According to police, Nandigam Jayadev (15), Galinki Surya Sumanth (15) and Sayyed Eliyaz went to Goshpada Kshetram Ghat in Kovvuru town along with Nandiagam Jayadev’s family members in the evening.
As there is no water near the ghat, Jayadev, Sumanth and Eliyaz crossed the fencing at the ghat and went into the sand dunes in River Godavari for bathing. While taking bath, they were drowned in the deep water. Seeing this, the fishermen tried to rescue them. They managed to save Eliyaz while two others Jayadev and Suman drowned in the river. The victims were studying 10th class in Chaitanya School in Kovvuru town. The families of the students reside at 21st ward of the town.
The local people immediately informed the matter to police. Police, fire and revenue personnel rushed to the ghat.
