The AP government which is keen on improving road connectivity, is taking up road development works to improve facilities for goods transport. As far as East Godavari district is concerned, the government is planning to develop State highways running to a length of 1,274 km.

Kakinada: The AP government which is keen on improving road connectivity, is taking up road development works to improve facilities for goods transport. As far as East Godavari district is concerned, the government is planning to develop State highways running to a length of 1,274 km.

Of 1,274-km stretch, existing length of core road network to a length of 613 km and another proposed core road network to a length of 661 km will be developed as State highways. Some of the roads to be developed as part of road network development are Kakinada–Rajahmundry road (68-km stretch), Rajahmundry-Maredumilli-Bhadrachalam (102-km stretch), Kakinada-Amalapuram-Narasapuram ferry road (Sakhinetipalli Revu) (125-km stretch), Kakinada–Rajanagaram ADB road (55-km stretch) and Dwarapudi–Yanam connecting temple town Draksharamam (42-km stretch) are some of the proposed roads.

Under the proposed core road network, Narsipatnam bordering Visakhapatnam district and Devipatnam-the gateway to East Godavari Agency (101-km stretch), Kakinada–Pyna (22-km stretch), Rajahmundry- Kesavaram-Bommuru (12-km stretch), Samarlakota-Prathipadu (24-km stretch) and Tuni-Kathipudi (52-km stretch) are some of the roads identified under this category. The AP government issued GO 68 to this effect.

East Godavari R&B SE CSN Murthy said AP Road Development Corporation and R&B department would jointly execute the works. We are awaiting the release of funds for road development, the SE added.
