Visakhapatnam: All vehicles would be registered at dealer point, via online from March 1. This system helps to ensure delivery of registration documents on the same day of buying the vehicle apart from curbing the menace of middlemen, who have been fleecing the customers for years.

Speaking to The Hans India, Deputy Transport Commissioner S Venkateswarlu said that the Road Transport Authority (RTA) has embarked on delivering online services under e-Pragati programme. “As many as 17 services will go online and one such mission is to register the vehicles online,” he added. The DTO said that post March 1; vehicles without registration or with temporary registration would not be allowed to move on the road.

Under the new system, the consumers would have to submit all the documents to the dealer and pay the relevant fee as prescribed by the RTA. The dealer in turn would upload all the documents and fee details to the RTA website. “If there are any queries, the issue will reflect on the dashboard of RTO and if they fail to resolve the issue, it would reflect on the dashboard of deputy commissioner and finally to the commissioner, if the issue still remains unresolved,” the deputy commissioner added.

The Vizag office registers 50,000 vehicles per annum of which 40,000 are two wheelers, 7,000 cars and 3,000 are heavy vehicles. The registration fee starts from Rs 300 for smaller vehicles and Rs 900 for heavy vehicles.

“The RTA office will be completely free from the middlemen and a broker as a help desk has been opened. This will be headed by an RTO rank officer. This very move has resulted in disappearance of over 400 brokers, who have been swarming around the office,” the DTO claimed and added that more services would be made online shortly.
