Eluru: The emergency meeting of the Eluru Municipal Corporation held at Municipal Corporation meeting hall here on Monday witnessed mutual recrimination by corporators of the TDP and the YSRC over non-utilisation of funds, failure to ensure water supply during the current summer in the city and naming of a road.

The meeting was presided over by Mayor Sheikh Noorjahan. The council passed a seven-point agenda at the end of the meet. However, the YSRCP floor leader Bandaru KiranKumar expressed discontent over non-availability of drinking water in different parts of the city particularly in II Town area. “We feel shy of showing our faces to the public in our respective divisions for our inability to put to use our own funds,” he regretted.

He said that the Corporation’s inaction had deprived people in most parts of the city of drinking water, causing much embarrassment to elected representatives. He sought response of the Mayor on implementation of SC sub-plan. He alleged that funds meant for the welfare of SCs, are not reaching them. This spurred the members into a wild protest.

The Mayor said that during the last 20 months, the Civic body had taken up development works worth Rs 52.44 crore in the city. The YSRCP floor leader flayed the TDP corporators for not taking up renovation works of Janmabhoomi Park behind the Collectorate despite the funds being allotted for the same.

Meanwhile, MLC Ramu Suryarao called for constructive criticism and urged the corporators of both the parties not to disturb the proceedings.
The YSRCP floor leader also questioned the Mayor on renaming the road opposite to Laveti Appalaswamy market in 36th division as Maridamma Ammavaru Street instead of Kilari Appalaswamy Road (the resolution was passed for the same in 2009).

Coopted member SMR Pedababu said the people of that area gave their consent for naming the road after Maridamma Ammavaru, a five-decade old temple.

Corporators Dakarapu Rajeswara Rao, Jijjivarapu Prathap Kumar, Kappa Umamaheswara Rao and Hema Sasikala Nagesh also spoke at the meeting. Corporators Adari Aruna, Md Elias Pasha, Paladugu Deepti Murali, Corporation Commissioner Y Sai Srikanth and Municipal Health Officer Dr Suryarao were also present.
