Tirupati: Rich tributes were paid to the veteran Marxist leader Puchalapalli Sundarayya on the occasion of his 31st death anniversary here on Thursday. At a commemorative meeting held in CPM district office here, party district secretary K Kumar Reddy after paying floral tribute to the portrait of Sundarayya said his life is an inspiring model to the people.

“He is known as Communist Gandhi for his simple and humble life and dedicated his entire life to the service of the people more so the oppressed and depressed,” he averred recalling various historical movements he leads in the united state and also his spirited fights against exploitation of people right from village to state-level.

In another meeting held at CITU district office, CITU district general secretary K Murali said that the need of selfless people like Sundarayya has felt more than ever before now in the society torn with declining moral values, growing corruption and scams. Murali said despite born to a wealthy landlord family, Sundarayya gave up all the luxuries and comfort at the very early age to take up movements for the rights of poor and oppressed classes.

He opposed indication of caste in his name and lifelong fought for the welfare of workers, landless poor, women, Dalits, and minorities. CITU city unit also held a meeting to remember Sundarayya where city president N Chandrasekhar Reddy and others paid floral tributes to the portrait of Sundarayya and recalled his outstanding contribution to building the Communist movement in the country more so in Andhra Pradesh.
