Rajamahendravaram: After locals expressed doubts of human sacrifice and witchcraft taking place in Narayanapuram, Prakasam Nagar police arrested four persons while they were digging a pit and performing bizarre rituals in the nearby Food Corporation of India (FCI) godowns.

According to the police, Tadella Ganapathi, a native of Burri Lanka under Kadiyam mandal, has been residing in a rented house behind FCI godowns in Narayanapuram in Rajamahendravaram. A couple Parvathi Devi and Venkanna Dora came to his house on Sunday evening along with their six-year old daughter and one Ram Kumar.

Ganapathi was spotted digging a pit in the bushes in FCl premises along with the visitors by a retired constable. The retired policeman shouted drawing the attention of other locals. Sensing something unusual, the locals alerted the home guard performing his duty at FCI godowns. While two of them managed to escape, four were caught on the scene.

Prakasam Nagar police station staff rushed to the spot and took four persons into custody. The police found turmeric, saffron, and a sword on the spot. When asked them about the pit, they fumbled and there was lack of clarity in their answers. They were taken to the police station. However, locals strongly suspect that they were attempting to sacrifice the six-year old girl for a hidden treasure.

Speaking to The Hans India, Prakasam Nagar inspector Subrahmunyeswara Rao said that there was no clarity in their explanation and informed that the arrested persons were produced before the court. However, he added that the six year-old girl and her mother were sleeping in the house when the accused performing bizarre rituals, but ruled out human sacrifice angle.

He added that one M Srinivasa Rao, of Srirampuram village, who fled from the scene on Sunday night had a history of witchcraft according to the local people. The police official felt confusion in the case could be cleared after arresting him.
