Vijayawada: A four-month-old infant from Nuzvid Bhavishya Dharani who was suffering with a chronic heart disease was given a new lease of life by the specialists at Andhra Hospitals here.

According to a press release issued by Dr P V Ramana Murthy, Managing Director of the hospital, the toddler had a history of breathing difficulty and blue tinted (discolouration) of lips, tongue and nails. The child was found to have a heart disease called as ‘Total anomalous pulmonary venous drainage’, which is affected to 1 among 10,000 children. The complication is rare and life-threatening and definitely requires surgery, he said.

He further added that the child was put on ventilator for five days before surgery and two days post operation.

She exhibited good recovery symptoms and is all set to go home, added the doctor.

A team of specialists headed by neonatal chief Dr P V Rama Rao had taken care to ensure the infant gets adequate pre and post operative care.
