Vizianagaram: A man murdered his mother-in-law by beating her with an iron rod while she was asleep in her residence at Poram area under Mentada mandal on Monday.
The deceased was identified was S Kalavathi (58) and the accused is L Eswara Rao, a farmer. Though the police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder, they are suspecting that family dispute might be the cause for the gruesome incident.
Police said that Rao married Kalavathi’s daughter Santhoshi a decade ago and later the couple was separated over family dispute and not having children. The couple was granted divorce.
However, Santhoshi married another person three years back and gave birth to a baby girl. Rao showed no interest in second marriage and developed grudge against Santhoshi and Kalavathi.
Knowing that Santhoshi came to her parents’ home, Rao had gone to her residence at 4.30 a.m. on Monday and attacked Kalavathi with an iron rod and fled the spot. Severely injured Kalavathi died on the spot.
Speaking to the reporters, DSP (Bobbili) Soumya Latha said that Rao had developed grudge against Santhoshi for marrying another person and he also nursed grudge against Kalavathi for performing second marriage to her daughter.
“We are suspecting that Rao had gone to the home to eliminate Santhoshi but killed Kalavathi,” the DSP said.
Police registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
