Hyderabad: Shifting of administrative departments of Andhra Pradesh from Hyderabad to Vijayawada and Guntur turned into a killing business for transport and cargo movers in the city.
According to official sources, there are about 80 HOD offices which need to be shifted from Hyderabad either to Vijayawada or Guntur, and the process has already begun. However, transportation has remained a huge task for each department.
Following this, the State government has asked the Transport Commissioner to come up with a plan fixing the transport charges which would be applicable to all the shifting HOD departments.
Accordingly, the Transport Commissioner has recommended that for a DCM or an Eicher van, a transport charge of Rs 15,500 has been fixed. Similarly, for the heavy goods vehicles (HGV), the transportation charges for gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 25,000 kg has been fixed at Rs 25,000 and for HGV of 31,000 kg has been fixed at Rs 32,000.
“Distance between Hyderabad and Vijayawada, and Guntur would be about 275 km with a travel time of about five to five and half hours on the NH 65. And, the rate card for shifting remained attractive, now the transport companies are trying their level best to get in to offer their services in the shifting process,” the sources added.
The task before the government is huge, as on an average each of the commissionerate or directorate needed around 10 HGVs. For example, Department of Agriculture and Cooperation alone had to shift four commissionerates and one directorate.
Besides, there are about eight institutions either registered as a cooperative, federation or corporation under the same department. But, they would be shifted on a later date as such entities fall under Schedule IX and X of AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.
A rough estimate puts that the HODs and Secretariat and other offices need anywhere around 4,000 trips to shift the entire administration from Hyderabad, said a senior official of Transport, Road and Buildings department.
