Rajamahendravaram: Local MLA Dr Akula Satyannarayana urged Muslim minorities to make use of the several schemes introduced by the State government for their uplift. He along with Mayor Pantam Rajani Sesha Sai distributed Chandranna Ramzan Tohfa (gift packs) to the eligible Muslim families here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Satyannarayana said the State government was supplying ­essential commodities under the Chandranna Ramzan Tohfa to Muslim families below poverty line.

Mayor Rajani Sesha Sai said each family holding white ration card will be provided with five kg wheat flour, two kg sugar, one kg Vermicelli and 100 gram ghee, in view of the Eid-ul-Fitr.

She said the State government has been distributing the essential commodities among Hindus during Sankranti, among Christians during Christmas and among Muslims during Ramzan despite the state government reeling under severe financial crunch.

Stating that the State government was committed to the welfare of minorities, she said that the government had already initiated ‘Dukan-Makan, Roshni and Dulhan schemes for the welfare of Muslims. Deputy Mayor Vasireddi Rambabu and YSRCP floor leader Sharmila Reddy were present.
