Visakhapatnam: Reluctant to marry a girl arranged by his parents, a 25 -year-old man committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan, a day before his marriage at his residence in Burma Colony under Malkapuram police station limits on Friday. The deceased was identified as G Shiva (25), a painter by profession.
Circle Inspector of Malkapuram Police Station D Kesava Rao said Shiva's marriage was fixed with a girl of Vizianagaram on Saturday. Ever since the marriage date was announced, he has been telling his parents that he was not interested in arranged marriages, but would go for a love marriage. But his parents spurned his request and forced him to accept the girl, with whom they arranged the marriage, citing that love marriages often fail. Around 4 am on Friday, Shiva hanged from the ceiling fan in his room. His elder brother noticed him hanging and immediately informed his parents and police.
The police sent the body to King George Hospital for conducting post-mortem. The CI said they were yet to know whether Shiva had any girlfriend. A case of suspicious death has been registered.
