Visakhapatnam: HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao inaugurated the fourth phase of the Janma Bhoomi programme at Indira Priyadarshini Municipal Stadium here on Monday and announced a slew of schemes to the people. The Minister said that around 3.24 lakh people were getting pensions and another 30,000 would get their pension during the current phase of Janma Bhoomi with each assembly segment getting 2,000 new pensions. Similarly 11.20 lakh people have rations cards and another 1.43 lakh would get rations cards. Out of this 50,000 people would get their ration cards during the current phase of Janma Bhoomi, said Srinivasa Rao.

Regarding the development of Municipal Stadium, the MLA said the State government had realised the importance of the stadium and sanctioned Rs 13.75 crore for its renovation.
Local MP Dr K Haribabu said the Arogya Raksha scheme launched on New Year’s Day year would be useful to all the people in the State. Each and every person should be included in the scheme, said Haribabu and added that Visakhapatnam was surging ahead in implementing the Swacch Bharat scheme. The MP said Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu would lay the foundation stone for the Purushottapatnam lift irrigation scheme (PLSI) on January 5 and the scheme would supply water to the city and surrounding areas. He said the project would be completed in one year.
Speaking on the situation post-demonetisation, the MP said cashless transaction had crossed 60 percent of the transactions in the district and India would soon surpass many developed nations in this regard. GVMC commissioner M Harinarayanan said1.98 lakh members of self-help groups were found be eligible for loan waiver and each of them would get Rs 3,000 soon. MLC MVVS Murthy, joint collector G Srijana and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
