Visakhapatnam: District Committee of CPM while supporting the proposed ‘Chalo Visakha R K Beach’ protest to be held on January 26 demanding the Centre for Special Category Status (SCS) called upon the student community, youth, women, intellectuals, mass organisations and voluntary organisations to participate in the mega protest in large numbers irrespective of party affiliations.
Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, party district secretary K Lokanadham said that SCS for Andhra Pradesh, special packages for the backward Rayalaseema and north coastal Andhra districts, separate railway zone for Vizag, Polavaram project, granting of national educational institutions and filling up of the State deficit budget were promised on the floor of Parliament at the time of bifurcation.
He alleged that the BJP-led NDA government soon after coming to power changed its version, thus the BJP and the TDP were doing harm to the State.
He also flayed that Chandrababu Naidu in an election-eve meeting in Tirupati had demanded SCS for Andhra Pradesh for 15 years and not for five years besides railway zone for Vizag.
Later, both the parties cheated the electorate and the Chief Minister was simply satisfied with the special packages and not in a position to tell the Centre that the TDP support would be withdrawn if the SCS and railway zone are not granted.
Stating that pledging the interests of Andhra Pradesh to the Centre is shameful, Loknadham demanded the TDP government support the proposed protest without creating any hurdles.
Party city secretary B Ganga Rao and city committee member M Jaggunaidu were also present.
