Hundreds of teachers, who were protesting at the District Educational Office here on Wednesday, were arrested and taken to Chillakalapudi police station. In all, 500 teachers were arrested which include 200 women teachers, who were demanding the cancellation of teachers’ transfers and closing of government schools.

In all, 500 teachers were arrested which include 200 women teachers, who were demanding the cancellation of teachers’ transfers and closing of government schools.

The Federation of Andhra Pradesh Teachers Organisation (FAPTO) and Joint Action Committee of Teachers Organisation (JACTO) laid siege to the district education offices at all the 13 districts in the state. They protested against the government over teachers’ transfers and closing of government schools. All the teachers unions demanded cancellation of web counselling and performance points along with closing of government schools.
