Vijayawada: Commissioner of Police D Gautam Sawang on Monday appealed to the traders in the city to install CC cameras without fail and asked them to ensure proper functioning of cameras to collect clues to detect the offenders.

The Commissioner said CCTVs will be very useful to resolve the offences particularly thefts and other crimes take place in the shops, banks, residential apartment flats, commercial establishments and other places.

Gautam Sawang was addressing the gold traders and workers at NAC function hall on Monday after producing the culprits before the media in the sensational gold heist case, in which inter-state criminal gang robbed seven kgs of gold articles from a shop on July 11 in Governorpet.

Commissioner said the police could not get vital information and clues in the gold robbery case in Governorpet due to not functioning of CCTVs installed in the workshop.

He said though 12 CCTVs were installed in the Shankar gold works Kharkhana but none of them were functioning. He has appealed to the gold traders and other businessmen, residents living in apartments living in the city, commercial establishments to install CC cameras without fail as early as possible and help the police to investigate the cases as early as possible.

He said investigation will be easy if the investigation officers get some clues and evidences with the help of CC camera footages. He said the criminals are adopting modern technology and traders should be very cautious to protect their valuables in the shops.

The Commissioner cautioned the gold traders and workers to be cautious saying that the gold workers from various places will come to Vijayawada to work and take proper measures to check the offences in their shops or ornament making workshops.

Interestingly, gold traders particularly the Shankar Munna, the owner of the shop, where robbery was committed was overjoyed with the recovery of gold articles. Shankar Munna and other co-workers delighted with the recovery of 4 kg gold articles in less than two weeks.

He thanked the Commissioner of Police and other top officials for the speedy recovery. “I was confident on recovery of gold as the Commissioner of Police Gautam Sawang personally spoke and assured several times that the accused will be arrested,” he said.
