Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee wrote letters to Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan CPI and CPM state units separately seeking support for their party candidate in Nandyal byelection.
PCC president N Raghuveera Reddy in his letter said the state and the Central governments had cheated people by neglecting the issues in the AP Reorganisation Act. He recalled that the BJP had not implemented assurances like Special Category Status, filling of revenue deficit, funds for new capital, railway zone, incentives for industries, steel factory for Kadapa and port for Dugarajapatnam.
The BJP government was continuing attacks on Christians, Muslim Minorities and downtrodden sections, he alleged. Criticising the TDP and YSR Congress for not questioning the injustice being done to the state, he said that both the parties had been extending support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protect their own interests.
He said the Congress had given ticket to a Muslim candidate G Abdul Khadar in Nandyal byelection where a majority of voters are from same community. He also proposed an alliance by Congress, Jana Sena and the Left parties in the ensuing Kakinada Municipal Corporation elections.
Meanwhile, Raghuveera Reddy launched the “Protest Rakhis to PM” programme being conducted by Mahila Congress. He sent an e-rakhi to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's twitter account through his mobile phone. The Mahila Congress leaders designed online rakhi reminding the promises made by BJP during the last elections. Congress women activists sent rakhis to PMO as a mark of the protest. State Mahila Congress president Sunkara Padmashree and several leaders were present.
