Andhra Pradesh has been placed third on the list of states with the highest accident rates in 2017. According to the statistics provided by National Highways Authorities of India (NHAI), AP witnessed 30,045 road accidents with 8,210 deaths which makes 7.52 percent of the country’s total.

40 percent of the accidents in the state involved overspeeding, 20 percent due to drunken driving, 18 percent for negligent driving, 12 percent accidents were caused due to driving without rest and five percent due to technical failures.

Officials at the Transport Department who analyzed the accidents in AP concluded that the most dangerous period is between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. which accounts for 60 percent of the total accidents.
