“After suffering a heavy blow in the last year’sBalliguda encounter, they are trying to regroup and strengthen their base. Dwindling funds and frequent surrenders have weakened them in the region,”he said while producing four Maoists who surrendered to the police before media here on Wednesday.
The SP said the four were members of Galikonda Area Committee of CPI (Maoist) who have claimed that they were disillusioned by their leaders and with the ideology. They said they were vexed with the killing of tribal people and obstructing the development.
The surrendered Naxalites have been identified as Korra Balaram (28), Korrra Satti (30), Pangi Ganesh (26) and Dippala Venkata Rao (27), all natives of Pedapadu area under GK Veedhi mandal in Vizag Agency. All of them carry a reward of Rs 1 lakh each.
Balaram and Satti were involved in over 10 offences, including the killing of a trader Mukkali Satyanarayana near Kukumpudi and murder of three tribals belonging to Sagulu area near Lakkavaram and a few others in the past six years.
Balaram, Satti and Venkata Rao were also involved in the exchange of fire with security forces at Pedapadu in 2016 and the trio has made efforts for the medical treatment of Gemmela Narsing (25), area committee member of Galikonda Dalam and Muvvala Ambri (22), dalam member, who were injured in the Pedapadu exchange of fire incident, the SP said.
After gunning down of Gemmeli Narayan Rao alias Jambri, there was a leadership crisis in the Galikonda area committee and the members of the area committee have lost their charm.
“We were forced to join the outfit due to coercion of Maoists and have decided to shun violence for a peaceful life,” said the surrendered Maoists. The SP said they would be given compensation of Rs 1 lakh each and suggested to the project officer of ITDA to allot the land.
