Amaravati: TDP and BJP MLCs were engaged in heated argument in the Legislative Council on Monday over the Special category Status (SCS) and on the assurances made in AP Reorganisation Act. The TDP MLCs attacked the BJP government at the Centre for not granting SCS to Andhra Pradesh.
BJP MLCs Somu Veerraju and Madhav strongly defended the NDA government and said that the Centre is granting adequate funds to the State as per the Reorganisation Act. They said the TDP leaders were levelling false allegations against the BJP. BJP MLC Somu Veerraju took strong objections to the comments made by the TDP members against the Centre on SCS.
TDP MLC Y V B Rajendra Prasad participating in the discussion on motion of thanks to Governor’s address had asked the BJP MLCs to make it clear whether they stand by the people of Andhra Pradesh or they support the Centre.
He came down heavily on the BJP alleging that the leaders of the national party cheated the people of Andhra Pradesh on the SCS. Rajendra Prasad demanded that the BJP MLAs and MLCs should resign and tender apology for not granting SCS. Rajendra Prasad has ridiculed the claim made by the BJP leaders that the Union government sanctioned grants of Rs.1 lakh crore to develop the road network in the State.
He further said the BJP failed to sanction funds for the development of backward regions in Rayalaseema and North Coastal Andhra and not allocating grants for construction of capital Amaravati, setting up educational institutions of national importance, metro projects in Vijayawada and Vizag.
He pointed out that the BJP-led NDA government had sanctioned Rs 1 lakh crore Bullet train to Gujarat and Rs.15,000 crore to Bengaluru metro project and failed to sanction funds for Vijayawada and Vizag metros.
MLC Buddha Venkanna lashed out at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that the PM in the presence of Lord Venkateswara in Tirupati had assured the people of Andhra Pradesh on sanctioning grants but failed to keep the promises.
Venkanna said CM Chandrababu Naidu had built the transit Secretariat and Assembly to meet the requirements of the State. He said Rs.1500 crore sanctioned for the capital would not be sufficient.
TDP MLC Raja Narsimhulu pointed out that the NDA government sanctioned only Rs 54 crore for AIIMS against the Rs 1000 crore worth land allocated by the State government.
He said the Centre caused gross injustice to the State during the last four years. Minister Pitani Satyanarayana and others spoke on the occasion. BJP MLC Somu Veerraju and Madhav tried to hit back at the TDP alleging that the TDP is levelling false allegations and listed out the grants sanctioned to the State in the last three years. But, the TDP members and Ministers were not convinced.
