Embarking on ‘Porata Yatra’ bus tour from Itchapuram, the northern most tip of Andhra Pradesh, actor-politician Pawan Kalyan on Sunday expressed confidence that his Jana Sena would win 2019 elections to the Assembly and form the government in the State.
"This would be possible with the blessings of the elders, brothers and sisters of the state," he said even as the youth cheered him lustily. He made it clear that his party would not go in for seat sharing with any party and that it would contest all the 175 seats.
Addressing a public meeting here after performing ‘Gana Pooja’ to improve the visibility of his party among people ahead of the Assembly elections, Pawan Kalyan said that he launched the yatra to learn firsthand the problems being faced by the people. “Jana Sena, which is committed to protection the culture of Telugu people, would not swerve from its chosen course," he said.
Referring to divisive caste politics, he said that his party would never promote such trends though they may provide short term political gains. He felt that one should sit with the people and understand their problems rather than playing on their castes. "The rift that has been created between fishermen and tribes in Srikakulam district is a case in point," he said.
He recalled his efforts to get justice to the victims of kidney ailments in Uddanam area in the district. "Though I had brought the problem to the notice of the government, it had not been able to address it effectively," he said.
Touching another sensitive issue exclusive to the district, he said that he would find an end to the problem of migration of people to other parts of the state in search of livelihood. The film actor came down heavily on the TDP and the BJP holding them responsible for denial of Special Category Status to AP.
He said the Centre was not releasing funds to the state and recalled BJP chief Amit Shah asking him to merge his Jana Sena into the BJP. "He wanted me merge Jana Sena in to BJP but I did not oblige. We are an independent party and will continue to remain so," he said.
Training his guns at Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, he said that unlike him, he neither has Heritage factory nor greed for money. "I am entering public life only to serve the people.
People want a party which has ideology of Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal for them to elect it to power in the next elections," he said, and pointed out that the TDP had come to power in 2014 promising jobs and industrialisation but both the promises remain unkept.
