Social Welfare Hostel warden suspended for serving stale food

Vijayawada: The girl students belonging to Social Welfare Hostel, Nuzvid staged a protest for serving stale food at the hostel on Tuesday.

District Collector B Lakshmikantham responded to the protest by the students of the social welfare hostels and suspended warden Nirmala Kumari.

A memo was issued to the Assistant Social Welfare Officer and ordered the Tahisldar to serve hygienic food to the hostel inmates.

The Nizvid MLA, Meka Venkata Pratap Appa Rao reached the hostel and enquired about their problem. The students complained to the MLA about their sad saga that they were served stale food. They informed him that in the last three days 14 students fell sick.

The MLA expressed his ire at the social welfare officer and asked if he would serve stale food to his kids and keep them in such unhygienic conditions.

The MLA said that in spite of the government introducing various welfare schemes to the students staying in welfare hostels, the schemes were not reaching the beneficiaries and were not implemented properly at the field level.

This was the clear example that the students have to bare the unhygienic conditions at the welfare hostels. He said that for the last one week the students had to starve for proper food to eat.
