SVIMS organises cancer screening camp

Tirupati: Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) on Thursday conducted a medical camp for women for cancer screening in the down town area Jeevakona in the city.
Aided by the newly introduced Pink Bus (mobile cancer facility), a team of doctors from SVIMS held the camp in which 72 women were screened while 30 of them for Mammogram test and pap smear test to 52 women. Oral examination was done for 67 women and ultra sound test to 13 women in the ‘Pink Bus’. SVIMS Director Dr TS Ravikumar along with Community Medicine HoD Dr Nagaraj led the camp.
Simultaneously, 32 teams of SVIMS community service, medicine faculty, students of nursing and MBBS, nurses and health volunteers conducted a survey in the predominantly labour locality covering 194 households to assess the incidence and prevalence of cancer in the area. The team also worked on all environmental factors including household hygiene contributing to cancers.
SVIMS team of doctors and nurses from surgical oncology, pathology, radiology, gynaecology, oral/dentistry, oncology nursing, community nursing and students from Sri Padmavathi Medical College, College of Nursing and medico social workers, public relations, allied health, community navigators, drivers and administrative staff participated in the camp.
