Various student organisations have kicked-started the campaign  for the Student Union Elections 2016-17 in University of Hyderabad (UoH) through social media and door- to-door campaign. 

Hyderabad: Various student organisations have kicked-started the campaign for the Student Union Elections 2016-17 in University of Hyderabad (UoH) through social media and door- to-door campaign.

According to the sources, student organisations are spending lot of money on freebies like complimentary trips and food. They are using social media with a one liner slogans and attractive digital posters.

A student of Literature Department Shivani said “Campaign drive is in full swing. “There are numerous issues which organisations are raising. For instance improvement of facilities in campus and increase in amount of fellowship and scholarship,” she added.

The polls have assumed added importance this time as they are being held for the first time after the suicide of research scholar Rohith Vemula.

ABVP Telangana Unit Vice President Kiran Gundala told The Hans India that this time the campaign strategy consists of door- to-door meetings along with propaganda on social media. Currently they have over 3,000 followers on facebook and in coming time it will increase positively,” he claimed. He did not thing that Rohith Vemula’s suicide would impact the elections.

All India Students Federation (AISF) President Syed Valihulla Kadhri said the organisation had also framed a new slogan for 2016-17 elections ‘No More Rohiht’ and all the Left thinkers would take it forward.” He said they had started a campaign and are trying for an alliance with SFI and other organisations, he added.

Talking about NSUI approach towards the elections, State President of NSUI Balmoor Venkat said “University of Hyderabad has become an epicentre for social moment, campaigning has started but we don’t want to reveal our strategy because ABVP will copy it again as they had done earlier.”

Venkat said the NSUI’s strategy was to defeat the ABVP because it may create communal atmosphere in the campus by propagating the RSS ideology. Rohith Vemula’s suicide would be the main plank of the campaign this year, he added.

In 2015-16 Student Union Elections, Students Federation of India (SFI), Tribal Students Forum (TSF), Dalit Students Union (DSU) and Telangana Vidhyarthi Vedika (TVV) alliance swept the election.
