Sonakshi Sinha started her career as a costume designer in films and later on she debuted in Bollywood with ‘Dabangg’ and with ‘Akira’ she has become a singer too. Speaking about her career transition, the multi-faceted actress shares: “It’s been very organic.
I feel that I have always done things that I have loved to do. I started off with studying fashion designing after that I designed costumes for a film. After an audition, I bagged a role in ‘Dabangg’.
Since my childhood, I loved to dance and sing. And singing was something that I wanted to do for a while now but I did it last year for ‘Akira ’. I am working on my next ‘single’, hope that will turn into a bigger hit.
About her style she says, “I believe that beauty lies in simplicity, I am a very simple dresser and I have laid back a sense of style. I feel style is something inbuilt and it could be not what you wear but it could be the way you talk, walk, etc.
Every individual have their own style. But if you are talking about fashion I am simple dresser but for my profession, I get to dress-up a lot, be glamorous and wear exciting and enjoying clothes.
Comfort is important to me, says Sonakshi. “I will not wear clothes that are uncomfortable. It just shows when you are uncomfortable because everybody doesn’t have the same body type or structure.
You have to understand what looks good and what does not look good on you. Body type is important but it’s OK to look different. And at the same time being healthy is important, everyone cannot be slim.”
Sonakshi wants to pursue her fashion career and she is planning to launch her own fashion line when she gets time. “I would look to call my clothing line ‘Asli Sona’ when I start it.”
Sonakshi Sinha will be seen as a tough RAW agent along with John Abraham in the upcoming film ‘Force 2’. “The movie is about two forces that come together to protect people.
One is RAW agent ‘KK’ (me) and the other is police (John Abraham). It is very exciting film for me. The character of KK attracted me a lot and I said yes to the project.
KK is an alpha herself and she is working in a man’s world along with men. She is confident and strong, she knows what to do next. I enjoyed playing a RAW agent.
I trained in mixed martial arts for ‘Akira’; and that training came handy while shooting ‘Force 2’. The action scenes were really physically demanding at a times. Next up, I have ‘Noor’ in which I play myself.
She states that in six years of her career, the most memorable moment for her is the release of her first film ‘Dabangg’.
“For me that will be the most unforgettable day in my life and ‘Dabangg’ became a hit and made it more special,” she shares.
You are touted as Black Widow (action heroine) of Indian cinema, how does that feel? “I think it is great when people appreciate your work and you feel good when you get these taglines.
The tagline "The Black Widow of Indian Cinema” that The Hans India gave me, is the biggest sign that your work has been appreciated and liked by everyone.
Bollywood is finally rising up for woman-oriented films. However, only handful movies are centred on woman protagonists. So what is your take on that?
“I think slowly we are heading towards that direction even audience is open now to watch different kinds of movies.
A lot of filmmakers are also started writing roles keeping women in mind and that is good news. And I hope many films will be made on these lines in future.”
